Havelock North businesses, let’s secure our future.
Voting is open until 28th February 2022.
The current Havelock North Business Association has been working hard over many years to support realising the potential of our centre for all businesses in the village. The current catchment area for the Havelock North Business Association was originally established in 1994, and whilst the Havelock North CBD has evolved and grown over time, the catchment area has remained largely unchanged, we believe it’s time to expand.
The Havelock North Business Association Board on the 15th September 2021 resolved to request Hastings District Council to investigate a larger catchment area for the Havelock North Business Association. Upon this request, the Council at its November 2021 Strategy and Policy Committee Meeting agreed to complete a poll of property owners to confirm the level of support for, or against, the formation of the larger Havelock North Business Association area.
We encourage you to have your say in the poll when voting packs are delivered, the poll opens on Friday 4th February until Monday 28 February.
The Havelock North Business Association has already provided so much for the village and a larger catchment would give us the ability to do more.
In the first year we have set the budget at $143,000 plus GST to implement this plan and help us achieve the goals set out in the summary. This grows and expands on the great work the Havelock North Business Association has been doing in the smaller catchment area.
We believe a larger Business Association for Havelock North is needed to be able to unlock the potential of the heart of the village. The combined result of pooled resources to coordinate this will be a much more vibrant and coordinated village, which will create opportunities for all businesses and stakeholders in the increased village area.
If we get the go ahead to form a larger catchment area, business owners from the expanded area will be invited to join the existing board at the upcoming AGM to ensure good representation. The Board is elected by the members and is responsible to ensure that the use of money collected is in the interests of all Havelock North Business Association members.
Funding for the larger Havelock North Business Association would be collected through a targeted rate on the commercially rated properties within the new proposed area (see map). The boundary was agreed by the board and mirrors the boundary of the current ‘Havelock North CBD Commercial General Rate’. This boundary will be extended to include those properties on the fringes when their land use changes from residential to commercial.
This new targeted rate would replace the existing Havelock North Promotional Rate that those businesses that are currently members of the Havelock North Busienss Association pay and any voluntary memberships payment those in the expanded area currently commit to.
